When to talk to the pharmacist before buying
- Cough lasting more than 3 weeks — that's beyond simple-cold territory. Book a Pharmacy First consultation; we may refer to your GP.
- High blood pressure, heart problems, diabetes, or thyroid disease — pseudoephedrine (Sudafed) can affect blood pressure and heart rate.
- You're already on a multi-symptom cold remedy — be careful not to double-up on paracetamol; we can check.
- Cough with blood, severe chest pain, or sudden breathlessness — see your GP or A&E urgently. Don't self-treat.
- You're pregnant, breastfeeding, or buying for a young child — many cough/cold products are not recommended; ask first.
