Acne — your questions, answered
What causes acne?
Acne happens when pores become blocked with oil and dead skin, sometimes with bacteria. Hormones, genetics and stress can all play a part. It's very common and treatable.
How is acne treated?
Mild acne often responds to over-the-counter washes and creams. For more stubborn acne, prescription-strength gels such as adapalene (Differin) or Epiduo can help, after a consultation with our pharmacist.
How long does acne treatment take to work?
Give it time — most treatments take 8–12 weeks to make a real difference, and skin can look a little worse before it improves.
Does squeezing spots make acne worse?
Yes — squeezing can push infection deeper and cause scarring. It's best to leave spots alone and treat the skin overall.
