Gloves

More than you'd think: giving first aid, cleaning up spills, caring for a family member, changing dressings, or any job where you want a hygienic barrier between your hands and what you're handling. Ours are non-powdered latex examination gloves, sold by the box, and they're single-use — put on a fresh pair for each task.

Gloves — your questions, answered

What if I'm allergic to latex?
These gloves contain natural rubber latex, which can cause reactions in people with a latex allergy — anything from itchy, red skin to, rarely, a serious allergic reaction. If latex has ever irritated your skin, choose a non-latex alternative such as nitrile or vinyl instead — ask our pharmacist. If someone develops swelling of the face or difficulty breathing after latex contact, call 999.
How do I pick the right glove size?
A glove should feel snug without straining: too loose and you lose grip and dexterity, too tight and it's more likely to tear. As a rough guide, measure around your palm at its widest point and check it against the size chart on the box. If you're between sizes, most people find the larger size more comfortable for longer jobs.
Do gloves mean I can skip washing my hands?
No — gloves are an extra barrier, not a substitute for hand hygiene. Hands can still pick up germs as you take gloves off, and small tears aren't always visible. Wash or sanitise your hands after removing gloves, change them between tasks, and never reuse a single-use pair.
