Menopause — your questions, answered

Do home menopause tests work?
The Suresign home test detects raised FSH, a hormone that climbs around the menopause, and can be a helpful pointer. But hormone levels naturally fluctuate, so one test can't confirm it — for most women over 45, the diagnosis is based on symptoms alone.
What can help with menopause symptoms?
Regular exercise, a balanced diet and cutting back on caffeine and alcohol all help. Menopace supplements are designed for use during and after the menopause. For vaginal dryness, Gina — a low-dose vaginal oestrogen tablet — is available after a short consultation with our pharmacist.
What about HRT?
HRT is a prescription treatment from your GP and is very effective for symptoms like hot flushes and night sweats. Our pharmacist is happy to talk through the options before your GP appointment, and we dispense NHS prescriptions including HRT.
When should I see a GP?
See your GP if symptoms are affecting your daily life, work or relationships — you don't have to put up with them. Always get checked if you have vaginal bleeding more than a year after your periods stopped; it's usually nothing serious, but it needs looking at.
