What is Ovesse 1mg/g Vaginal Cream 15g?

Ovesse is a vaginal cream containing estriol 1mg per gram, a form of oestrogen. It is used to relieve the dryness, itching, soreness and discomfort during sex that can follow the menopause, when falling oestrogen levels leave the tissue of the vagina thinner and less elastic. It is supplied as a pharmacy medicine for postmenopausal women aged 50 and over, and comes with an applicator for measuring and inserting each dose.

How does it help?

After the menopause the body makes much less oestrogen, and the lining of the vagina becomes thinner, drier and more fragile as a result. Estriol applied directly inside the vagina acts on that tissue, helping it thicken, regain elasticity and produce more natural moisture, which eases the dryness and soreness over a few weeks of use.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Ovesse is for postmenopausal women aged 50 and over. Do not use if you have or have had breast cancer or any other oestrogen-dependent cancer, unexplained vaginal bleeding, untreated thickening of the womb lining, a blood clot in a vein or artery, a known clotting disorder, active liver disease or porphyria. Tell us about any vaginal bleeding, new breast lumps or unusual discharge that appear while you are using it, and keep going to your breast screening and cervical screening appointments. It is not a contraceptive and does not treat hot flushes. Our pharmacist reviews your answers and checks it is right for you before it is dispensed.
