Cystitis — your questions, answered
How is cystitis treated?
Mild cystitis often settles within a few days with fluids and over-the-counter sachets to ease the symptoms. If it doesn't settle, an antibiotic may be needed — women aged 16–64 can be assessed free under NHS Pharmacy First.
When should I get it checked?
See us or a GP if you have a fever or back pain, blood in your urine, symptoms lasting more than a few days, or if you're pregnant, male, or it keeps coming back.
Can I prevent it?
Drinking plenty of water, going to the toilet when you need to, and wiping front to back can all help reduce the risk.
