What is CanesOasis Cystitis Relief?

Cranberry-flavour granules dissolved in water to relieve the discomfort of mild cystitis in adult women, such as burning or stinging when passing urine.

Sodium citrate makes the urine less acidic, which can ease the stinging and burning of a mild urinary tract infection while your body clears it.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. For adult women only — not for men, children, or in pregnancy without advice. Drink plenty of water alongside it. See a doctor if symptoms don't improve within a couple of days, if you have a fever, back pain or blood in your urine, or if cystitis keeps coming back. Don't use if you're allergic to any of the ingredients or are on a low-sodium diet. Speak to our pharmacist if you're taking other medicines or have any ongoing health conditions.

Common questions

Is CanesOasis an antibiotic?
No. It contains sodium citrate, which makes urine less acidic so the burning and stinging of mild cystitis are easier to bear while your body clears the infection. It doesn’t kill bacteria. If symptoms aren’t improving, women aged 16–64 can be assessed free on the NHS at our pharmacy through Pharmacy First for UTI.
Is CanesOasis the same as Canesten?
They come from the same Bayer family but treat completely different things. CanesOasis is for cystitis — a urinary infection causing burning when you pass water. Canesten products treat thrush, a yeast infection causing itching, soreness and discharge. If you’re not certain which you’ve got, our pharmacist can help you work it out first.
Who shouldn’t take CanesOasis?
Sodium citrate sachets aren’t suitable if you have kidney disease now or in the past, heart disease, high blood pressure or diabetes, if you’re on a low-salt diet, or if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding — each sachet carries a lot of sodium. They’re for adult women only; men and children with cystitis symptoms should see a GP rather than self-treat.
When should I stop and see a doctor?
If the burning hasn’t settled by the end of the two-day course, or it keeps coming back, get checked rather than repeating it. Seek help urgently if there’s blood in your urine, a temperature or shivering, pain in your back or side under the ribs, or you feel sick — those suggest the infection is spreading. Out of hours, call NHS 111.
