Face Masks

A Type IIR 3-ply mask is a fluid-resistant surgical mask — light, comfortable and mainly designed to stop droplets from the wearer reaching other people. A KN95 is a filtering respirator that fits more closely to the face and filters fine particles from the air you breathe in, so it gives the wearer more protection. Our pharmacist can help you decide which suits what you need it for.

Clean your hands before putting it on, then make sure it covers your nose, mouth and chin with as few gaps as possible — pinch the nose strip so it sits snugly. Try not to touch the front while you're wearing it, and remove it by the ear loops. Wash or sanitise your hands afterwards, and change the mask if it gets damp or damaged.

No — both our 3-ply and KN95 masks are single-use. Replace a mask once it's damp, dirty or damaged, or after you've worn it for the day, and put used masks straight in a bin. Masks shouldn't be shared, washed or disinfected for reuse.

Common-sense moments: when you have a cough or cold and can't avoid being around others, when visiting someone who is elderly or vulnerable, in crowded indoor spaces when respiratory infections are circulating, or when a hospital or care setting asks you to. In most everyday situations it's a personal choice — our pharmacist can advise if you're unsure.
