How are piles treated?
Soothing creams and suppositories such as Anusol ease the itching and discomfort while piles heal. Just as important is keeping your poo soft so you don't strain — Fybogel adds gentle fibre and Dioctyl softens hard stools. Our pharmacist can put together the right combination for you and your symptoms.
How can I stop piles coming back?
Keep your poo soft and easy to pass: eat plenty of fibre, drink lots of fluids, and don't put off going to the toilet when you feel the urge. Avoid straining, and don't sit on the toilet longer than you need. If constipation is the root cause, treat that too — see our constipation page.
When should I see a GP about piles?
See your GP if there's no improvement after seven days of home treatment, piles keep coming back, or they're very painful. Always get bleeding from the bottom checked — especially if the blood is dark or mixed in with your poo — so anything more serious can be ruled out.
