What is Anusol Plus HC Ointment and Suppositories?
Anusol Plus HC is a pharmacy treatment for the symptoms of piles (haemorrhoids) and itching around the bottom (pruritus ani). It comes in two forms: an ointment for internal and external piles, and suppositories for internal piles. Both contain hydrocortisone, a mild steroid, together with soothing and protective ingredients.
How does it help?
Hydrocortisone calms inflammation, easing swelling, itching and discomfort. Zinc oxide and the bismuth compounds are astringents that help protect and soothe the sore, irritated area, and balsam Peru has a mild antiseptic action.

Who should take care?
Always read the patient information leaflet before use. For adults aged 18 and over only. Do not use it if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if the area has a fungal, viral (for example herpes or chickenpox) or tuberculosis infection, or if you are allergic to any of the ingredients. Use the ointment up to 4 times a day, or one suppository up to 3 times a day, at night, in the morning and after each bowel movement, for no longer than 7 days. If you have any bleeding from the back passage, see a doctor before using it, as this can be a sign of something more serious. Using a steroid for longer than advised can cause side effects; tell a doctor if you notice blurred vision or other changes to your eyesight.
