What is Germoloids Suppositories 24?

Suppositories for internal haemorrhoids - piles that sit inside the back passage rather than on the outside. They are inserted after you have been to the toilet, usually morning and night, so the treatment is placed inside the back passage where internal piles sit.

How does it help?

Lidocaine hydrochloride is a local anaesthetic. It temporarily blocks the nerve endings in the lining of the back passage, which is what stops the pain and the itch being felt. Zinc oxide is an astringent - it draws the irritated tissue together slightly and leaves a protective film over the surface, which helps calm the soreness and swelling while the area settles.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. For rectal use only, in adults and children aged 12 and over. Do not use if you are allergic to lidocaine or other local anaesthetics, or to any other ingredient in the leaflet. Speak to our pharmacist or your GP before using them if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. See your GP if you have bleeding from the back passage that has not been checked, a lasting change in bowel habit, unexplained weight loss, or if your symptoms have not improved after 7 days of treatment.
