What is Replens MD Vaginal Moisturiser?

Replens MD is a non-hormonal vaginal moisturiser supplied in single-use pre-filled applicators. It is used for vaginal dryness and the itching, soreness and discomfort that go with it - common around and after the menopause, and also with some medicines and cancer treatments. It is a medical device rather than a medicine, and it contains no oestrogen or other hormone.

How does it help?

The gel contains polycarbophil, a polymer that clings to the surface cells lining the vagina and holds water against them. Those cells shed naturally over the following days and the moisture goes with them, which is why one application keeps working for a few days rather than needing topping up each time. It rehydrates the tissue and helps the vagina return to its normal acidity. It does not replace oestrogen and does not change your hormone levels.

Who should take care?

Always read the instructions before use. Replens MD relieves dryness; it is not a contraceptive and it does not protect against sexually transmitted infections. Tell us about any unexplained vaginal bleeding, bleeding after sex or after the menopause, unusual discharge, pain, sores or a possible infection - those need to be assessed by a clinician rather than treated with a moisturiser. Do not use it if you are allergic to any of the ingredients, and stop using it and speak to us if it causes irritation. If you use condoms, check the leaflet in the pack for compatibility.
