What is Acnecide Face Wash 5% Gel 50g?

Acnecide Face Wash is a gel wash containing benzoyl peroxide 5%. You massage it into damp skin, leave it briefly, then rinse it off. It is licensed for mild acne on the face where blackheads and whiteheads are the main problem and there are few or no inflamed spots.

How does it help?

Benzoyl peroxide releases oxygen into the pores, which kills the bacteria linked to acne and helps loosen the plugs of dead skin and oil that form blackheads and whiteheads. Because it is a wash rather than a leave-on gel, its contact time with the skin is short - you massage it in, leave it briefly and rinse it off.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. For external use only - keep it away from the eyes, mouth and inside of the nose. It can cause redness, dryness and peeling, especially in the first weeks; start once a day if your skin is sensitive. Your skin may burn more easily in the sun, so use sun protection. Do not use another benzoyl peroxide product at the same time. It can bleach hair, towels and clothing. It is not licensed for moderate or severe acne - if your acne is mainly deep, painful spots, or has not improved after 12 weeks, speak to our pharmacist or your GP. Our pharmacist checks it is right for you before it is dispensed.
