What is Acnecide Benzoyl Peroxide Gel?

Acnecide is a benzoyl peroxide gel for treating acne vulgaris — the spots, blackheads and inflamed lesions that appear mostly on the face, chest and back. It comes in two strengths: 5% and the stronger 10%.

How does it help?

Benzoyl peroxide releases oxygen into the pore, which the bacteria involved in acne cannot tolerate. It also helps shed the dead skin cells that block pores in the first place, so fewer new spots form.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. For external use only. Benzoyl peroxide bleaches hair, towels, bedding and clothing — let it dry before dressing and use white bedding while you treat. Some drying, peeling or mild burning is expected at first; if you get swelling or blistering, stop and speak to a pharmacist. Keep away from the eyes, mouth and broken skin, and avoid strong sunlight or sunbeds while using it.
