What is Olbas for Children Inhalant Decongestant Oil 12ml?

Olbas for Children is a mixture of pure plant oils that gives off an aromatic vapour for a child to breathe in. It is the Olbas formulation made for infants and children, and it is used for the blocked, stuffy nose that comes with colds and flu, catarrh, hay fever and blocked sinuses. Nothing is swallowed - the drops go on a tissue or into hot water, never onto the child.

How does it help?

Drops on a tissue or in a bowl of hot water release vapours of eucalyptus, mint, cajuput and menthol. Breathed in, these give the cooling, opening sensation in the nose and sinuses that makes a blocked nose feel clearer, so a congested child can breathe more comfortably. Because it works as a vapour in the air around the child, it can be used at night with the tissue placed safely out of reach.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. For inhalation only: never put the drops into the nose or mouth and never swallow them - if that happens, seek immediate medical advice, as it can be harmful. If it gets on the surface of the eye, wash thoroughly and get medical advice straight away. Avoid contact with the child's skin and nightwear, and wash any splashes off with cold water. Do not use it for babies under 3 months, and do not use the hot water method for children under 2 - hot water scalds, so keep it well out of reach and supervise young children closely. Do not use it if your child is allergic to any of the plant oils listed. See a doctor if symptoms get worse, or do not improve after 7 days.
