What is Covonia Sore Throat Spray Menthol 30ml?

Covonia Sore Throat Spray (menthol flavour) is a pharmacy medicine for the relief of painful, irritated sore throats. It combines chlorhexidine, an antiseptic, with lidocaine, a local anaesthetic, and is sugar free.

How does it help?

Lidocaine numbs the sore area for short-term relief of the pain, while chlorhexidine acts as an antiseptic on the throat. Adults and children over 12 use 3 to 5 sprays, which can be repeated 6 to 10 times a day. It is meant for relieving existing soreness, not for long or repeated courses.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Not for children under 12. Do not use it if you are allergic to chlorhexidine or to any local anaesthetic, or if you have difficulty swallowing. Chlorhexidine can rarely cause severe allergic reactions. Keep it away from the eyes. See a doctor if the sore throat is severe, has lasted more than 2 days, or comes with a high temperature, headache, nausea or vomiting - a bacterial infection with fever needs other treatment. Use in pregnancy or breastfeeding only on a doctor's advice. Not for prolonged or repeated use.
