What is Sudafed Decongestant Tablets 12?
Sudafed Decongestant Tablets are a pharmacy medicine for a blocked, stuffy nose. Each tablet contains 60mg of pseudoephedrine hydrochloride, and they are licensed for the symptomatic relief of nasal and sinus congestion associated with a common cold, influenza, allergic rhinitis and vasomotor rhinitis.
How does it help?
A blocked nose is mostly swelling rather than mucus — the small blood vessels lining the nasal passages widen, the lining puffs up, and there is less room for air to move. Pseudoephedrine narrows those blood vessels, so the lining settles back down and the airway opens. Because the tablet is swallowed rather than sprayed in, it reaches the sinus passages as well as the nose.
Key benefits
- Relieves nasal and sinus congestion from colds, flu and allergic rhinitis
- Swallowed, so it reaches the sinus passages as well as the nostrils
- One tablet lasts 4 to 6 hours, up to four times a day for adults and children 12 and over
- Supplied from a registered pharmacy, with a pharmacist available to check it suits you
Who should take care?
Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Pseudoephedrine is not suitable for everyone. Do not take it if you have high blood pressure or heart disease, diabetes, an overactive thyroid, closed-angle glaucoma, a phaeochromocytoma or severe kidney disease, or if you take a beta-blocker, another decongestant, or a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) antidepressant now or within the last 14 days. Stop and get medical advice if you develop restlessness, hallucinations or sleep disturbance, a severe or blistering skin rash, sudden abdominal pain or bleeding from the back passage, or sudden loss of vision. If your symptoms are not improving after a few days, speak to us or your GP rather than carrying on. Tell us what else you take — our pharmacist checks it is right for you before it is dispensed.
