Otrivine Allergy Relief Nasal Spray contains xylometazoline 0.1% and is used for short-term relief of a blocked nose caused by hay fever and other allergies, in adults and children aged 12 and over.

What is Otrivine Allergy Relief Nasal Spray 10ml?

Otrivine Allergy Relief is a decongestant nasal spray containing xylometazoline hydrochloride 0.1% w/v. It is used for the short-term relief of a blocked or stuffy nose brought on by hay fever and other nasal allergies, in adults and children aged 12 and over. It relieves the congestion itself; it is not an antihistamine and does not treat the underlying allergy.

How does it help?

Xylometazoline narrows the widened blood vessels in the nasal lining that swell up during an allergic reaction. As the swelling comes down, the airway opens and mucus drains more freely, so the nose feels clearer within a few minutes.

Key benefits

  • Eases the blocked, stuffy feeling that hay fever and other nasal allergies bring on
  • Metered pump gives the same measured dose with each spray
  • Works in the nose itself, with relief that typically lasts several hours
  • Pocket-sized 10ml bottle for use during a flare-up

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Do not use for more than seven days in a row — longer use can cause a rebound blocked nose. Not for children under 12. Do not use if you have had surgery through the nose or on the pituitary gland, or if you take a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) antidepressant now or have within the last 14 days. Tell us if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, an overactive thyroid, glaucoma or prostate problems, or if you already use another hay fever nasal spray. Our pharmacist checks it is right for you before it is supplied.
