What is Otrivine Adult Nasal Spray 10ml?

Otrivine Adult Nasal Spray is a nasal decongestant containing xylometazoline hydrochloride 0.1% w/v. It is used for the short-term relief of nasal congestion — the blocked, stuffy feeling that comes with a cold, sinus congestion or hay fever. It is for adults and children aged 12 and over, and is not intended for use for more than seven days in a row.

How does it help?

Xylometazoline narrows the small blood vessels in the lining of the nose. As the swollen lining settles, the airway opens up and trapped mucus can drain more easily, which is why breathing usually feels clearer within a few minutes of a spray.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Do not use for more than seven days in a row — longer use can lead to a rebound blocked nose. Not for children under 12. Do not use if you have had surgery through the nose or on the pituitary gland, or if you take a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) antidepressant now or have in the last 14 days. Tell us if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, an overactive thyroid, glaucoma or prostate problems. Use your own bottle only, to avoid spreading infection.
