What is Strepsils Strawberry Sugar-Free Lozenges 36?

Strepsils Strawberry Sugar-Free are sucking lozenges for a sore throat, containing the two mild antiseptics amylmetacresol and 2,4-dichlorobenzyl alcohol. They are sweetened with isomalt and maltitol instead of sugar, which is what makes them the sugar-free option in the Strepsils range, and they are flavoured with strawberry.

How does it help?

The two antiseptics act on bacteria in the mouth and throat, where much of the soreness comes from. Sucking the lozenge slowly also brings on more saliva, which coats and lubricates the raw surface at the back of the throat, so the soothing effect builds while the lozenge dissolves.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Not for children under 6 years. Suck one lozenge slowly and do not take more than the daily maximum in the leaflet. These lozenges contain isomalt and maltitol, so they are not suitable if you have a rare inherited problem of fructose intolerance, and taken in large amounts sugar alcohols like these can have a mild laxative effect.
