What is Strepsils Orange with Vitamin C Lozenges 36?

Strepsils Orange with Vitamin C are sucking lozenges for a sore throat. Each one contains two mild antiseptics, amylmetacresol and 2,4-dichlorobenzyl alcohol, along with 100mg of vitamin C. They are used for the relief of sore throat and other mouth and throat infections.

How does it help?

The two antiseptics act on bacteria in the mouth and throat, which is where much of the soreness sits. Sucking the lozenge slowly also gets your mouth producing more saliva, and that coats and lubricates the raw feeling at the back of the throat, which is why the relief tends to arrive while the lozenge is dissolving. The vitamin C is carried in the lozenge rather than acting on the throat itself.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Not for children under 6 years. Suck one lozenge slowly and do not take more than the daily maximum given in the leaflet. Each lozenge contains sugars, so take this into account if you have diabetes, and this product is not suitable if you have a rare inherited problem of fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency. If your sore throat lasts more than 3 days, or you also have a high temperature, headache, nausea or vomiting, speak to your doctor or come and see our pharmacist.
