What is Covonia Dry & Tickly Cough Linctus 300ml?

A thick, sweet linctus from the Covonia range for a dry, tickly cough and a sore, scratchy throat. Its active ingredient is glycerol, a simple demulcent, so it contains no cough suppressant, antihistamine or decongestant, which is why it can be given to children from one year and taken alongside most other medicines.

How does it help?

Glycerol works as a demulcent: the syrup coats the lining of the throat with a soothing film that eases the tickle and irritation that keeps setting off the cough. It does not act on the brain to suppress coughing. Take a dose up to four times a day for up to five days; if the cough has not settled by then, speak to a pharmacist.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Not suitable for children under 1 year. Each 5ml dose contains 1.7g sucrose and 0.3g liquid glucose, which people with diabetes should take into account, plus small amounts of ethanol and propylene glycol. Do not take if you have hereditary fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency. If the cough lasts more than five days, or comes with a high temperature, chest pain, breathlessness, or coughing up blood or discoloured phlegm, speak to a pharmacist or doctor.
