What is Strepsils Sore Throat and Cough Lozenges 24?

Strepsils Sore Throat and Cough are sucking lozenges containing two mild antiseptics, amylmetacresol and 2,4-dichlorobenzyl alcohol, together with levomenthol. They are used for the relief of mouth and throat infections and the tickly, irritated cough that tends to go with a sore throat.

How does it help?

The two antiseptics act on bacteria in the mouth and throat. The levomenthol adds a cooling, opening sensation as the lozenge dissolves, which helps with the tickle at the back of the throat that keeps setting off a dry cough. Sucking the lozenge slowly also increases saliva, and that coats the sore surface while it works.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Not for children under 6 years. Suck one lozenge slowly and do not exceed the daily maximum given in the leaflet. Each lozenge contains sugars, so bear that in mind if you have diabetes, and it is not suitable if you have a rare inherited problem of fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency. If your sore throat or cough lasts more than 3 days, or you also have a high temperature, headache, nausea or vomiting, speak to your doctor or come in and see our pharmacist.
