What is Lemsip Max Cold and Flu Lemon Sachets 10?

A lemon-flavoured powder that you stir into hot water to make a drink. Each sachet holds a full adult dose of paracetamol (1000mg) together with phenylephrine, a decongestant, for the short-term relief of cold and flu symptoms.

How does it help?

Paracetamol reduces the pain signals you feel and acts on the part of the brain that controls body temperature, which is how it eases aches, headache and sore throat and brings a fever down. Phenylephrine narrows the swollen blood vessels in the lining of the nose, which helps clear a blocked nose so you can breathe more easily.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. For adults and young people aged 16 and over, for up to 5 days - see a doctor or pharmacist if symptoms last longer or get worse. Do not take more than 4 sachets in 24 hours, and do not take it with any other medicine containing paracetamol or with another decongestant or cold and flu remedy - a paracetamol overdose can cause serious liver damage even if you feel well at the time. Do not take it if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, an overactive thyroid, diabetes, an enlarged prostate, closed-angle glaucoma or a phaeochromocytoma, or if you have taken an MAOI antidepressant in the last two weeks. Speak to us first if you have liver or kidney problems, drink alcohol regularly, have Raynaud's phenomenon, or are pregnant or breastfeeding. Each sachet contains aspartame (a source of phenylalanine, which can be harmful in phenylketonuria), sucrose and lactose, and is high in sodium (about 129mg per sachet), which matters if you are on a low-salt diet.
