What is Beechams Powders 20 Sachets?
Beechams Powders are the traditional Beechams remedy: a powder in a sachet that is stirred into water and drunk. Each sachet contains 600mg of aspirin with 50mg of caffeine. They are licensed for the symptoms of flu, feverishness, chills and colds, and for mild to moderate pain including headache, migraine, neuralgia, toothache, sore throat, period pain and muscular aches. As a pharmacy medicine, our pharmacist checks it is right for you before it is dispensed.
How does it help?
Aspirin belongs to the anti-inflammatory family of painkillers. It blocks the production of prostaglandins, the chemicals that cause pain, swelling and fever, so it eases aches and brings a temperature down. The small dose of caffeine is a mild stimulant that helps counter the sluggish, heavy feeling of a cold. One sachet is dissolved in water and taken every four to six hours as needed, up to six sachets in 24 hours.
Key benefits
- Treats fever, aches and pain from one sachet
- Powder dissolves in water, so it suits anyone who dislikes swallowing tablets
- Licensed for a wide range of everyday pain as well as cold and flu symptoms
- Each sachet is a full 600mg dose of aspirin
Who should take care?
Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Not for anyone under 16 because of the link between aspirin and Reye's syndrome. Do not take if you are allergic to aspirin or other anti-inflammatory painkillers such as ibuprofen (including asthma, wheeze or swelling triggered by them), or to peanut or soya; if you have or have ever had a stomach ulcer or bleeding from the stomach or gut; if you have haemophilia or another clotting disorder, gout, or liver or kidney failure; or if you are in the last three months of pregnancy. Ask our pharmacist before use if you have asthma, high blood pressure, diabetes, mild kidney or liver problems, G6PD deficiency or are dehydrated, if you take methotrexate or blood-thinning medicines, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Limit other caffeine such as coffee and energy drinks while taking it.
