What is Benylin Mucus Cough Max Syrup 300ml?

Benylin Mucus Cough Max is a syrup for a chesty cough - the kind where you can feel mucus on your chest but it is hard to shift. Each 10ml dose contains 200mg of guaifenesin, an expectorant. It is taken four times a day and is suitable for adults and children aged 12 and over.

How does it help?

Guaifenesin thins and loosens the sticky mucus in your airways. Thinner mucus is easier to move, so each cough clears more and you spend less time coughing without result. It does not suppress the cough itself - it makes the cough do its job.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Do not take it if you are allergic to guaifenesin or any of the ingredients. It is not meant for a long-standing or chronic cough - for example with asthma, COPD, bronchitis or smoking - or where you bring up a lot of phlegm, unless a doctor has advised it. Do not take it alongside a cough suppressant. If your cough lasts more than a week, keeps coming back, or you have a high temperature, chest pain, breathlessness or blood in your phlegm, see a doctor.
