Otrivine Sinusitis Nasal Spray contains xylometazoline 0.1% and is used for short-term relief of the blocked, congested feeling of sinusitis in adults and children aged 12 and over.

What is Otrivine Sinusitis Nasal Spray 10ml?

Otrivine Sinusitis Relief is a decongestant nasal spray containing xylometazoline hydrochloride 0.1% w/v. It is used for the short-term relief of the congestion that comes with sinusitis — the blocked nose and the pressure or heaviness around the cheeks, forehead and eyes. It is for adults and children aged 12 and over and is meant for a few days' use only.

How does it help?

Xylometazoline narrows the small blood vessels in the swollen lining of the nose and the sinus openings. As that swelling comes down, the passages between the sinuses and the nose open up, so trapped mucus can drain and the pressure eases.

Key benefits

  • Helps open the drainage passages so trapped mucus can clear
  • Metered pump gives a measured dose each spray
  • Starts to work within a few minutes and typically lasts several hours
  • Acts in the nose itself rather than throughout the body

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Do not use for more than seven days in a row — longer use can cause a rebound blocked nose. Not for children under 12. Do not use if you have had surgery through the nose or on the pituitary gland, or if you take a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) antidepressant now or have within the last 14 days. Tell us if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, an overactive thyroid, glaucoma or prostate problems. See your GP if sinus symptoms last more than about ten days, keep coming back, or come with a high temperature, severe facial pain or swelling around the eye. Our pharmacist checks it is right for you before it is supplied.
