Sleep & Stress
Short-term sleep aids and stress-support products. Most clinically-effective sleep aids contain a sedating antihistamine — these are pharmacy-only because they're not for long-term use. If sleep is persistently disrupted, we'd rather have a conversation than send you home with tablets.

When to talk to the pharmacist before buying
- Sleep aids are for short-term use only — typically up to 7 nights. If you've been struggling with sleep for weeks or months, tablets aren't the right answer — let's talk about what's driving it.
- You're over 65 — sedating antihistamines like diphenhydramine and promethazine can cause confusion and falls in older adults. We can suggest safer alternatives.
- You drive or operate machinery — these medicines cause next-day drowsiness; not safe alongside driving.
- You're already on antidepressants, anti-anxiety medicines, or strong painkillers — sedating effects can stack.
- You're pregnant, breastfeeding, or have asthma, glaucoma, or prostate problems — many sleep aids are not recommended; ask first.
- Anxiety that's affecting your daily life — your GP can offer talking therapies and other support. We can signpost.
