Is Phenergan a sleeping tablet?
Phenergan 25 mg contains promethazine, a sedating antihistamine. It isn’t a prescription ‘sleeping pill’ — it’s a pharmacy medicine licensed for the short-term treatment of insomnia in adults, and it’s the drowsiness side of the antihistamine that helps you sleep.
How long does it take to work, and how long will I feel drowsy?
Take it 20–30 minutes before bed. The sedative effect commonly lasts into the next morning — allow a full night’s sleep and take care with driving or machinery the next day until you know how it affects you.
How long can I take it for?
It’s for short-term use only. If you still need help sleeping after 7–10 days, stop and speak to our pharmacist or your GP — persistent insomnia needs its cause looked at, not a longer course.
Can children take Phenergan to help them sleep?
