Weight Loss — your questions, answered

How do I know if my weight is affecting my health?
A body mass index (BMI) of 25 or more counts as overweight, and 30 or more as obese — though BMI isn't perfect, and waist size matters too, because weight carried around the middle carries more risk. If you're not sure where you stand, check your BMI or ask our pharmacist to help you make sense of the numbers.
What weight-loss help can I buy without a prescription?
Alli capsules contain orlistat, which reduces the amount of fat your body absorbs from food, and XLS-Medical Max Strength is a certified medical device used alongside a calorie-controlled diet for weight management. Both are designed to support — not replace — a lower-calorie diet, and our pharmacist can talk through whether either is right for you.
What about weight-loss injections like Mounjaro and Wegovy?
Mounjaro and Wegovy are once-weekly prescription injections our pharmacist can discuss and, where suitable, supply after a structured consultation. They work best alongside real changes to diet and activity, not instead of them. You can read more on our weight-loss treatment page, or speak to our pharmacist first if you're unsure.
What's the healthiest way to lose weight?
Slow and steady wins: gradual weight loss through a balanced, lower-calorie diet and regular activity is far more likely to stay off than a crash diet. Small, sustainable swaps — smaller portions, fewer sugary drinks, more walking — add up. Whichever route you take, treat any product or medicine as a support for those habits, not a substitute.
When should I see a GP about my weight?
See your GP if you're losing weight without trying — that always deserves a check — or if your weight is affecting conditions such as diabetes, joint pain or high blood pressure. It's also sensible to get advice before starting a weight-loss medicine if you have long-term health conditions or take regular medication.

Information only — always read the patient leaflet and ask our pharmacist if you're unsure. Prescription treatments are supplied only after a consultation and our pharmacist's approval.
