What is 8mm Pen Needles 31G 100?
These are the disposable needles that screw onto a reusable or pre-filled injector pen, such as the pens used for insulin and for GLP-1 injections. The 8mm length is a longer option that some people are used to or have been advised to use. Because it reaches further, a gently lifted skin fold is usually recommended so the medicine goes into fat rather than muscle. Each needle is sealed and sterile, is used once, then removed and put in a sharps bin.
How does it help?
The needle twists onto the threaded end of the pen. Once the pen is primed, the fine 31 gauge tip passes through the skin into the fat beneath it, where the medicine is absorbed steadily. At 8mm the needle can reach muscle in slimmer areas, so most guidance recommends injecting into a lifted skin fold, or at a 45-degree angle, to keep the dose in the fatty layer. Your pharmacist or diabetes nurse can check whether 8mm or a shorter needle suits you best.
Key benefits
- Universal fit for the standard screw-on pens from the main pen manufacturers
- Fine 31 gauge tip helps keep injections comfortable
- Longer 8mm length for people who have been advised to use it or prefer it
- Pack of 100 covers several weeks of daily injecting
Who should take care?
Always read the instructions before use. Never reuse a needle: a used tip is blunted and can bend, block or break, and reuse raises the risk of bruising, infection and inaccurate doses. Fit a new needle for every injection, remove it straight after use and do not recap it. Use a lifted skin fold or angled injection as you have been shown, so the medicine does not go into muscle. Dispose of used needles only in an approved sharps bin, never in household waste, and keep needles out of the reach of children. If you are unsure which needle length or technique is right for you, ask our pharmacist or your diabetes team.
