Can you get Mounjaro without a GP in Leeds?

Yes. Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine, but you do not need a GP appointment or referral to be assessed for it. At Hyde Park Pharmacy in Leeds, our prescribing pharmacist can review your suitability directly and prescribe where it's clinically appropriate — either at our Woodsley Road pharmacy or through an online consultation.

Mounjaro cannot simply be bought over the counter, and no reputable pharmacy will supply it without a proper clinical check. What a pharmacy with a prescribing pharmacist can do is carry out that assessment for you locally.

Who is eligible for Mounjaro?

Mounjaro for weight management is licensed in the UK for adults who have:

Your BMI is confirmed by the pharmacist at your consultation, not simply taken from what you enter online. The pharmacist also reviews your medical history and current medicines, and makes the final decision on whether treatment is appropriate — this is a clinical judgement, not an automatic result. You can get a rough idea of your own BMI first with our free BMI calculator.

Am I eligible for Mounjaro?
Two routes to being assessed — your BMI is confirmed by the pharmacist, not self-reported.
Mounjaro eligibility by BMI A BMI scale from 18 to 42. Two routes are highlighted: a BMI of 30 or above on its own, or a BMI of 27 or above alongside a weight-related health condition. The pharmacist confirms BMI at consultation. 18 25 30 35 40 BMI 27 + condition BMI 30 ROUTE A 30+ BMI of 30 or above On its own — no other condition needed ROUTE B 27+ BMI of 27 or above Plus a weight-related condition*
*e.g. high blood pressure, prediabetes/type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol or sleep apnoea. Illustrative — the pharmacist makes the final clinical decision at consultation. Not clinical guidance.

Do you need a video consultation?

A consultation is always needed — by video or in person. In line with GPhC guidance for weight-loss medicines, the pharmacist verifies your BMI and reviews your medical history before any prescription is issued, so the consultation is either a live video call or a visit to the pharmacy. This is a safety step, and it's not something a legitimate service will skip.

How to start Mounjaro in Leeds — step by step

  1. Complete a short online assessment. It takes a few minutes and asks about your height, weight, health and medicines. Nothing is prescribed at this stage — it simply prepares your consultation.
  2. Have your pharmacist consultation. In person or by video. The pharmacist confirms your BMI, reviews your health and medicines, and answers your questions.
  3. If it's right for you, treatment is arranged. Collect in person at our Leeds pharmacy or have it delivered discreetly and tracked. You're shown how to use the pen and what to expect.
  4. Ongoing support. The pharmacist manages your dose step-up, checks in on side effects, and reviews your progress — you're not left to manage injections alone.

Common questions

How much does Mounjaro cost in Leeds?

The cost depends on the dose the pharmacist agrees is right for you, as Mounjaro is stepped up gradually. You'll always see the exact price before you decide anything — current pricing is on our weight-loss page, with no consultation fee on top.

Is Mounjaro available on the NHS in Leeds?

NHS access to tirzepatide for weight management follows NICE guidance (TA1026) and is being introduced in phases, starting with the highest-priority groups, through specialist weight-management services and, since June 2025, GP practices (NHS England interim commissioning guidance). Your GP can tell you whether you are currently eligible on the NHS. A private pharmacy consultation is a separate route, with its own clinical assessment.

What if the pharmacist says it isn't right for me?

Then we'll tell you honestly and explain why, point you to a more suitable option or your GP where needed, and you won't be charged for treatment. The pharmacist's clinical decision is always the final call.

Where to get it

This article is general information from our pharmacist team, not personal medical advice. Whether any treatment is suitable depends on a full consultation. Clinical criteria reflect UK licensing and current guidance (MHRA, NICE, GPhC); if anything here has changed since the review date above, the consultation takes precedence. Report a suspected side effect from any medicine through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.
