Meet your pharmacy team
Every prescription dispensed and every consultation run at Hyde Park Pharmacy is the responsibility of a named, registered pharmacist. Not an algorithm. Not an offshore call centre. Real, GPhC-registered professionals you can phone, message, or walk in and meet.
Shoyab Umarji
Superintendent Pharmacist · Independent Prescribing Pharmacist
Shoyab leads the clinical governance of Hyde Park Pharmacy. As an Independent Prescribing Pharmacist, he can assess, prescribe, and counsel within his clinical competence — particularly across weight management, certain travel medicine, vaccinations under PGD, and men's-health treatments.
He's owned and managed several pharmacies in West and South Yorkshire, including Global Pharm Ltd in Wakefield. Across those years he's seen UK community pharmacy shift from dispensing alone to today's clinical-pathway-led model — Pharmacy First, the New Medicine Service, the NHS Pharmacy Contraception Service — and has invested in CPPE training and the Independent Prescribing qualification needed to deliver them safely.
At Hyde Park he holds final clinical authority on every service, every prescription, every customer-facing decision. He responds personally to complaints and near-misses. He sets the standards everyone here works to.

How our team works
- Pharmacist-led, not algorithm-led. Software helps us be thorough — it doesn't decide. Every P-medicine sale, every prescription, every consultation outcome is a human pharmacist's clinical decision, accountable to the GPhC.
- Named, registered, accountable. You can verify any of our pharmacists on the GPhC public register. We list registration numbers above and on every page footer because we should be findable.
- We refuse supplies when it's the right call. Pharmacists are obliged to decline a sale when it isn't clinically appropriate — and we do. Refusals come with an explanation, a suggested alternative, or a signpost to your GP or NHS 111. We don't pad sales just because the system would let us.
- Continuous training. CPPE modules for Pharmacy First, NMS, contraception service, blood-pressure screening. Independent Prescriber annotations where appropriate. Regular team review of safety incidents and near-misses.
- Audited, externally inspected. Last GPhC inspection (Nov 2024) — all 5 standards met. We hold ourselves to NHS Pharmaceutical Services contract standards plus the GPhC's professional standards. We publish what we're doing wrong as openly as what we're doing right.
- Local first, online national. We're a real community pharmacy on Woodsley Road, Leeds — students, families, regulars — not an offshore call centre. The online service extends what the counter does, doesn't replace it.
