Common questions

Is Laxido the same as Movicol?
Both are macrogol 3350 with the same added salts. Each Laxido Orange sachet holds 13.125 g of macrogol 3350 plus sodium chloride, sodium bicarbonate and potassium chloride — the same combination as a standard Movicol sachet. Laxido is made by Galen, Movicol by Norgine, and the NHS lists both as brands of macrogol. Flavour and pack options differ; the medicine works the same way.
Can children take Laxido Orange?
Not this one. The Laxido Orange licence covers adults, adolescents and older people, and it isn’t recommended for children under 12 — separate paediatric macrogol sachets exist for younger children. If your child is constipated, speak to our pharmacist or your GP before giving any laxative, so the right product is chosen for their age.
Can I use Laxido while I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?
Yes. The product licence says Laxido Orange can be used during pregnancy, and NHS guidance is that you can take macrogol while pregnant and while breastfeeding, as very little is absorbed into the body. Constipation is common in pregnancy, so it’s still worth mentioning to your midwife or GP. Our pharmacist checks it against your other medicines before we supply.
How long should I use it, and when should I see someone?
A course for constipation doesn’t normally run beyond two weeks, though it can be repeated if needed. NHS advice is to see a doctor if you have taken macrogol for two weeks and are still constipated. Get checked sooner for blood in your poo, unexplained weight loss, ongoing tummy pain, or a sudden change in bowel habit. Other options are on our constipation page.
