A pharmacy patch worn behind the ear that releases hyoscine to prevent travel sickness on journeys by car, sea or air.

What is Scopoderm 1.5mg Patches 2?

Scopoderm is a small, skin-coloured patch stuck on the hairless skin behind the ear to prevent the nausea and vomiting of motion sickness. Each patch contains 1.5mg of hyoscine (also called scopolamine). It is a pharmacy medicine, so it is sold under the supervision of our pharmacist.

How does it help?

Travel sickness happens when the balance organs of the inner ear tell the brain one thing about movement while your eyes tell it another. Hyoscine damps down the nerve signals passing from those balance organs to the part of the brain that triggers vomiting, so the mismatch is less likely to make you feel sick. Worn on the skin, the hyoscine is absorbed slowly and steadily, which is why the patch is put on several hours before you set off.

Key benefits

  • Worn behind the ear, so there is nothing to swallow once the journey starts
  • One patch covers a long journey instead of repeated doses
  • Licensed for adults and for children aged 10 and over
  • Useful for car, coach, ferry, cruise and air travel

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Hyoscine commonly causes a dry mouth and drowsiness and can blur your vision, so do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you, and avoid alcohol while wearing a patch. Wash your hands after putting a patch on and after taking it off, because hyoscine left on your fingers can irritate the eyes. Tell us if you have glaucoma, trouble passing urine, an enlarged prostate, a blockage in the stomach or bowel, epilepsy, or liver or kidney problems, and about any other medicines you take. Our pharmacist checks that it is right for you before it is supplied.
