What is Nicotinell 24 Hour Nicotine Patches 7 Pack?

Nicotinell 24 Hour Patches are nicotine replacement therapy. They are licensed to relieve and prevent the cravings and withdrawal symptoms of tobacco dependence, to help smokers who want to quit or cut down before quitting, and for smokers who are unable to smoke. Step 1 (21 mg) is where the licence starts smokers of more than 20 cigarettes a day; Step 2 (14 mg) is the next step down, and is also where smokers of fewer than 20 a day begin; Step 3 (7 mg) is the final step.

How does it help?

Each patch releases a steady amount of nicotine through the skin over 24 hours, which takes the edge off the cravings and irritability of stopping while you break the habit of smoking. Stick a new patch each day on clean, dry, hairless skin such as the shoulder blade, hip or outer arm, press it on for 10 to 20 seconds, and take it off after 24 hours. Use a different place each day and leave 7 days before using the same patch of skin again. Stepping down from 21 mg to 14 mg (and then 7 mg) lets the body come off nicotine gradually.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Nicotine patches are not for non-smokers or occasional smokers, and you should stop smoking completely while using them. Do not put a patch on red, broken or irritated skin; if a skin reaction is severe or does not settle, stop and speak to our pharmacist about another form of nicotine replacement. If you have recently been in hospital with a heart attack, stroke, unstable angina or a serious heart rhythm problem, or have uncontrolled high blood pressure, speak to your doctor first. Tell our pharmacist if you have epilepsy, diabetes (check your blood sugar more often when you start), or are pregnant or breastfeeding. Used patches still contain nicotine that can seriously harm a child: fold them in half and dispose of them safely.
