What is Lamisil AT 1% Gel 15g?

Lamisil AT 1% Gel is a cooling, non-greasy antifungal gel for skin infections caused by dermatophyte fungi: athlete's foot (tinea pedis), jock itch (tinea cruris) and ringworm (tinea corporis). It is applied once a day for one week.

How does it help?

Terbinafine kills the fungus rather than just stopping it growing. It blocks an enzyme the fungus needs to build its cell membrane, so the fungal cells break down. The gel is absorbed into the outer layers of the skin and keeps working there after the seven-day course has finished, which is why the skin can carry on improving for a couple of weeks afterwards. Clean and dry the affected area, then apply a thin layer once a day and rub in lightly.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Not for children under 16. Do not use if you are allergic to terbinafine or any of the ingredients. For external use only: keep away from the eyes, and avoid areas of sore, cracked or weeping skin, as the gel contains alcohol and may sting. It also contains benzyl alcohol and butylhydroxytoluene, which can cause mild local irritation or contact dermatitis. Do not use while breastfeeding, and speak to the pharmacist if you are pregnant. Complete the full seven days even if the skin looks better sooner, and see a pharmacist or doctor if there is no improvement two weeks after starting.
