Antifungal cream containing miconazole nitrate 2% w/w, licensed for fungal infections of the skin and nails. 15 g tube.

What is Daktarin 2% Cream?

An antifungal cream containing miconazole, used to treat fungal skin infections such as athlete's foot, ringworm and other fungal or yeast infections of the skin. Supplied in a 15 g tube.

How does it help?

Miconazole is an antifungal that damages the cell walls of the fungi and yeasts causing the infection. This stops them growing and helps clear the infection from the skin.

Key benefits

  • Treats common fungal skin infections
  • Effective against athlete's foot and ringworm
  • Contains miconazole 2%
  • Easy-to-apply cream
  • Handy 15 g tube

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. For external use only and avoid contact with the eyes. Keep using for the recommended time even after symptoms improve. Don't use if you're allergic to any of the ingredients. Speak to our pharmacist if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, taking other medicines, or have any ongoing health conditions. Our pharmacist checks every order before it's supplied.

Common questions

What is Daktarin 2% Cream licensed to treat?
Fungal infections of the skin and nails — athlete’s foot, ringworm and other fungal or yeast infections of the skin — and skin infections where Gram-positive bacteria are involved as well. It is for external use only: keep it away from the eyes, and it is not for use inside the mouth. For nails, see our nail infection page.
What is the difference between Daktarin 2% Cream, Daktarin Aktiv and Daktarin oral gel?
Daktarin 2% Cream and Daktarin Aktiv Cream both contain miconazole nitrate 2%, but their licences differ: this one is a pharmacy medicine covering fungal infections of the skin and nails, while Aktiv is general sale and licensed for athlete’s foot only. Daktarin oral gel is different again — that one goes in the mouth, not on the skin. Our antifungal range lists them together.
How long does it take to work, and can I stop when the rash clears?
The NHS says antifungal treatments usually take a few weeks to work, and nails take considerably longer than skin. Do not stop the moment the skin looks normal — the licence has you continue for a set period afterwards, and stopping early is the commonest reason athlete’s foot comes back. The pack leaflet gives the course; our pharmacist can check you are on track.
When should I have the skin looked at instead of self-treating?
If you have diabetes or a weakened immune system, get it looked at rather than treating it yourself. Come and see us too if it is not improving, if it is spreading, or if the skin is hot, red, swollen and painful, which can mean a bacterial infection. Tell us before you start if you take warfarin, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
