Daktacort Hydrocortisone Cream combines the antifungal miconazole with 1% hydrocortisone to treat athlete's foot and sweat rash (candidal intertrigo) that is also red, itchy and inflamed.
What is Daktacort Hydrocortisone Cream 15g?
Daktacort Hydrocortisone Cream is a two-in-one treatment for fungal skin infections that have become inflamed. It pairs miconazole, the antifungal in Daktarin, with the mild steroid hydrocortisone, and is licensed over the counter for athlete's foot and candidal sweat rash (intertrigo) in skin folds such as the groin, under the breasts or between the toes, where the skin is red, itchy and sore as well as infected. As a pharmacy medicine, our pharmacist checks it is right for you before it is dispensed.
How does it help?
Miconazole damages the cell wall of the fungus or yeast causing the infection so it can no longer grow, and also acts against some bacteria. Hydrocortisone calms the inflammation, reducing the redness, itching and soreness while the antifungal gets to work. Apply a thin layer twice a day for up to seven days; once the inflammation has settled, the infection can be finished off with a plain antifungal such as Daktarin cream or powder.
Key benefits
- Treats the fungal infection and the inflammation at the same time
- Calms redness, itching and soreness while the infection clears
- Licensed for athlete's foot and candidal sweat rash in skin folds
- Short seven-day course, then step down to a plain antifungal if needed
Who should take care?
Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Not for children under 10 unless prescribed by a doctor. Do not use on the face, eyes or mucous membranes, on broken skin or large areas, on cold sores, acne or ringworm, or on the anal or genital area unless a doctor has told you to. Do not use for more than seven days and avoid airtight dressings over the treated area. Tell the pharmacist if you take a blood-thinning medicine such as warfarin, as miconazole can increase its effect. Avoid during pregnancy unless advised otherwise. The cream can weaken latex condoms and diaphragms. See a pharmacist or doctor if the rash has not improved after seven days.
