Canesten Hydrocortisone Athlete's Foot Cream combines the antifungal clotrimazole with mild hydrocortisone to treat athlete's foot and fungal skin-fold rashes when itching and inflammation need easing.
What is Canesten Hydrocortisone Athlete's Foot Cream 15g?
Canesten Hydrocortisone Athlete's Foot Cream is a pharmacy cream for two fungal skin infections: athlete's foot, and candidal intertrigo (a red, itchy yeast rash in a skin fold). It is meant for infections where the itching and inflammation are bad enough to need easing at the same time as the infection is treated. It is a short course of up to seven days.
How does it help?
Clotrimazole is an antifungal. It stops fungi and yeasts making a substance they need for their cell walls, so the infection cannot keep growing and clears. Hydrocortisone is a mild steroid that calms the skin's inflammatory response, which reduces the redness, swelling and itch while the antifungal works. Apply a thin layer twice a day and rub it in gently. If the itching and inflammation have settled after seven days but the infection still needs treating, carry on with a steroid-free antifungal cream.

- Treats the fungal infection and eases itching and inflammation in one cream

Who should take care?
Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Do not use it for longer than seven days, on large areas of skin, on broken or infected skin, or under a dressing or nappy. Do not use it on the face, near the eyes or mouth, or on the genital or anal area unless a doctor has prescribed it. It is not for ringworm, cold sores, acne, rosacea or viral rashes such as chickenpox or shingles. Do not use it on children under 10, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, unless a doctor has prescribed it. The cream contains cetostearyl alcohol, which may cause local skin reactions, and benzyl alcohol, which may cause allergic reactions and mild irritation. Tell your doctor if you notice blurred vision or other changes in your sight. If the rash has not improved after seven days, speak to our pharmacist or your GP. Our pharmacist checks it is right for you before it is supplied.
