What is Kelo-Cote Scar Gel 15g?

Kelo-Cote is a transparent silicone gel from Alliance Pharma, intended for the treatment and prevention of raised (hypertrophic) and keloid scars. It is used on closed, healed skin after surgery, burns, cuts and other injuries. Once applied it dries within a few minutes to a thin, flexible, water-resistant layer that can be worn under sunscreen or make-up. The 15 g tube suits smaller scars.

How does it help?

Silicone gels are thought to work by forming a breathable, protective layer over the scar. This helps the healing skin hold on to moisture, which in turn can calm the over-production of collagen that makes a scar raised, red and firm. Apply a very thin layer to clean, dry skin twice a day and allow it to dry for four to five minutes; once dry, sunscreen or make-up can go over the top. A course of 60 to 90 days is generally recommended, and older scars may take longer to respond than new ones.

Who should take care?
