What is Arnicare Arnica Cream 50g?

A smooth white cream containing a tincture of the arnica plant, made by Nelsons and registered with the MHRA as a traditional herbal medicine. It is used for the symptomatic relief of bruises, based on traditional use only rather than clinical trial evidence, which is what a traditional herbal registration means. It is applied to the bruised area up to four times a day.

How does it help?

Arnica has been used on bruises for centuries, and the registration covers exactly that traditional use: the cream is applied to the skin over a bruise as it develops and fades. Being a cream, it also gives the area a gentle rub that many people find soothing. The registration does not make claims about how arnica acts in the body, and neither do we.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Do not use it if you are allergic to any of the ingredients or to plants of the daisy (Asteraceae/Compositae) family, such as chamomile, marigold or chrysanthemum, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. For external use only: keep it away from the eyes and do not apply it to broken or irritated skin. It contains cetostearyl alcohol, which may cause local skin reactions such as contact dermatitis, and the preservatives E218 and E216, which may cause allergic reactions, possibly delayed. Stop using it if you get itching, a rash, dry skin or a skin reaction. If the bruise gets worse, or you feel no benefit after two weeks, speak to your doctor or pharmacist; a bruise that appears without an injury, or bruising that keeps happening, should always be checked.
