Ibuprofen 400mg tablets are a pharmacy-strength anti-inflammatory painkiller for headache, migraine, period pain, dental pain, backache, muscular and rheumatic pain, and the aches and fever of colds and flu.

What is Ibuprofen 400mg Tablets 84?

These are sugar-coated tablets each containing 400 mg of ibuprofen, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). 400 mg is the higher, pharmacy-only strength; the standard shop strength is 200 mg. They are licensed for rheumatic or muscular pain, pain from non-serious arthritis, backache, nerve pain, migraine, headache, dental pain, period pain, feverishness and the symptoms of colds and flu. This is a generic pack made by Wockhardt UK.

How does it help?

Ibuprofen blocks cyclo-oxygenase (COX) enzymes, which reduces the production of prostaglandins, the chemicals your body releases at the site of injury or inflammation that cause pain, swelling and fever. Adults and children over 12 take one 400 mg tablet up to three times a day as needed, preferably with or after food, leaving at least four hours between doses and taking no more than three tablets (1200 mg) in 24 hours. It is for short-term use: if you still need it after ten days (three days for a 12 to 17 year old), see your doctor.

Key benefits

  • A single 400 mg tablet where you might otherwise take two 200 mg tablets
  • Eases pain and reduces inflammation and fever
  • Licensed for a wide range of everyday pain, including period pain, dental pain, migraine and backache
  • Take with or after food, which helps protect the stomach

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Do not take if you are allergic to ibuprofen, aspirin or other NSAIDs, if you have or have ever had a stomach ulcer or bleeding in the gut, if you have severe heart, liver or kidney failure or a bleeding disorder, or if you are in the last three months of pregnancy. Take the lowest dose that works for the shortest time. Ask our pharmacist before use if you are over 65, have asthma, high blood pressure, heart disease, kidney or liver problems or lupus, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or take other medicines (especially aspirin, other anti-inflammatories, blood thinners, steroid tablets or blood pressure medicines). Do not take with other products containing ibuprofen or another NSAID. If symptoms last more than ten days (three days for 12 to 17 year olds) or get worse, see your doctor.
