What is Cuprofen 400mg Tablets 96?

Cuprofen tablets contain 400mg of ibuprofen, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory painkiller, as a single-tablet dose rather than the 200mg strength found in general-sale packs. That makes it a pharmacy medicine, so our pharmacist checks it is right for you before it is dispensed. Ibuprofen should be taken at the lowest dose that works, for the shortest time needed, whatever the pack size.

How does it help?

Ibuprofen blocks cyclo-oxygenase (COX) enzymes, which the body uses to make prostaglandins, the chemicals that drive pain, swelling and fever at the site of an injury or inflammation. Less prostaglandin means less pain and swelling and a lower temperature. Take one tablet with or after food, leave at least four hours between doses, and never take more than three tablets in 24 hours.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Not for children under 12. Do not take if you have ever had a stomach ulcer or stomach bleeding, an allergic reaction to aspirin or other anti-inflammatory painkillers, or severe heart, kidney or liver failure, or if you are in the last three months of pregnancy. Ask the pharmacist before use if you have asthma, high blood pressure, heart disease, kidney or liver problems, are over 65, take blood thinners, steroids or other anti-inflammatories, or are pregnant, trying to conceive or breastfeeding. Take with food and use the lowest dose for the shortest time. Do not use for more than 10 days (3 days for 12 to 17 year olds) without seeing a doctor. Stop and seek help if you develop a rash, black stools or vomit blood.
