What is Panadol Period Pain Tablets?
Panadol Period Pain is a tablet containing paracetamol 500mg and caffeine 65mg. It is the same formulation as Panadol Extra Advance, packed for period pain, and its licence covers period pain (dysmenorrhoea) as well as headache including migraine, backache, toothache, rheumatic pain, and the symptoms of colds, flu and sore throat.
How does it help?
Paracetamol reduces the pain signals your brain and spinal cord register, easing cramping period pain and the headache or backache that can come with it, and helps bring down a fever. Caffeine is included alongside the paracetamol, and the two together are a well-established painkilling combination. Adults and children aged 16 and over take two tablets up to four times a day; 12 to 15 year olds take one tablet up to four times a day. Leave at least four hours between doses.
Key benefits
- Relieves period pain, and the headache and backache that can come with a period
- Also licensed for headache and migraine, toothache, rheumatic pain, and cold and flu symptoms
- Contains paracetamol and caffeine only, with no anti-inflammatory painkiller - ask us if you have been told to avoid ibuprofen
- Can be used from age 12, at a lower dose for 12 to 15 year olds
Who should take care?
Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Do not take it with any other medicine containing paracetamol, and never take more than the stated dose (8 tablets in 24 hours for those aged 16 and over, 4 tablets for 12 to 15 year olds) - a paracetamol overdose can cause serious liver damage even if you feel well at the time. Because of the caffeine, it should not be used if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, and you should avoid having a lot of tea, coffee or energy drinks while taking it. Speak to us first if you have liver or kidney problems. If your periods are unusually painful, heavy or irregular, or the pain is new or different, see your doctor. Not recommended for children under 12. Our pharmacist checks it is right for you before it is supplied.
