What is Gaviscon Original Aniseed Relief?
Gaviscon Original Aniseed Relief is a medicine for gastric reflux, heartburn and indigestion where the cause is reflux - including the heartburn many women get in pregnancy.
How does it help?
When it reaches the stomach, the alginate forms a protective raft on top of the stomach contents that helps keep acid out of the food pipe, soothing the burning. Shake the bottle well. Adults and children aged 12 and over: take 10-20ml (two to four 5ml spoonfuls) after meals and at bedtime. Leave 2 hours between Gaviscon and other medicines.

Who should take care?
Under 12s only on medical advice. High in sodium (142.6mg per 10ml) - ask first if you are on a low-salt diet, for example with heart failure or kidney disease; contains calcium - take care with high blood calcium or kidney stones. Contains parabens (E218, E216) and benzyl alcohol, which may cause allergic reactions. Leave 2 hours between this and other medicines, especially antibiotics, iron, thyroid tablets and digoxin. See a doctor if symptoms do not improve after 7 days, or for difficulty swallowing, weight loss or vomiting blood.
