What is Woodward's Gripe Water Dual Action 150ml?
Woodward's Gripe Water Dual Action is a liquid medicine given to babies for the distress that trapped wind causes. It is free from sugar and alcohol, and it is licensed for infants from one month old up to their first birthday. It has been a familiar name in British homes for generations.
How does it help?
The name comes from the two ingredients doing two different jobs. Dill seed oil helps the small trapped air bubbles in a baby's tummy come together and pass, so the pressure that makes them squirm, draw their legs up and cry eases off. Sodium hydrogen carbonate is a mild antacid that neutralises acid in the stomach. Both act in the gut itself rather than being absorbed around the body.

Who should take care?
Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Do not give to a baby under one month old, or to a child aged one year or over. Do not give more than six 5ml doses in 24 hours. It is not suitable if your baby has impaired kidney function, has been diagnosed with hereditary fructose intolerance, or has reacted before to dill seed oil, sodium bicarbonate or hydroxybenzoate (paraben) preservatives. If your baby has a fever, is vomiting, is feeding poorly, or the crying does not settle, contact your GP, health visitor or NHS 111 rather than continuing.
