Colief Infant Drops add the lactase enzyme to your baby's usual milk to break down lactose before a feed, for colic that may be linked to temporary lactose sensitivity.
What is Colief Infant Drops 15ml?
Colief Infant Drops are lactase enzyme drops that you add to your baby's usual milk before a feed. Some babies find lactose, the natural sugar in milk, hard to digest for a short period in early life, and that can contribute to the crying and discomfort of colic. Colief is a food supplement, not a medicine, and can be used from birth with either expressed breast milk or formula.
How does it help?
Lactase is the enzyme that breaks lactose down into two simpler sugars, glucose and galactose, which are easier for a baby's gut to absorb. Adding the drops to the milk before a feed does that job in advance, so the milk your baby drinks already contains less lactose. For formula, add four drops to the warm feed and wait 30 minutes before giving it; for breast milk, add four drops to a little expressed milk on a sterilised spoon and give it just before nursing. Feeds can also be made up ahead of time with two drops and kept in the fridge.
Key benefits
- Breaks down most of the lactose in a feed before your baby drinks it
- Can be used from birth with breast milk or formula
- A simple routine of four drops per feed
- A food supplement, so nothing medicinal is given to your baby
Who should take care?
Always read the instructions before use. Colief is a food supplement, not a medicine, and it does not diagnose or treat lactose intolerance. Colic has many possible causes, so speak to your health visitor, GP or pharmacist first if your baby is unwell, is not feeding or gaining weight as expected, or you have any concerns about their health. Store below 25C; once opened keep the bottle in the fridge and use within three months.
