What is Epimax Original Cream 500g?

Epimax Original Cream is a plain, unperfumed moisturising cream from the Epimax emollient range, made with white soft paraffin and liquid paraffin in a light cream base. It is for dry skin and dry skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis, and the 500g size suits regular, generous use over larger areas. It is free from sodium lauryl sulphate, lanolin, parabens and perfume, and can also be used instead of soap in the bath or shower.

How does it help?

The paraffins form a thin, breathable film over the skin that slows the loss of water from its surface. With water held in, the outer layer re-hydrates and becomes softer and more flexible, and the itch and tightness that come with dry skin ease as the skin barrier recovers. It is applied liberally and as often as needed, smoothed on in the direction of hair growth. Used as a soap substitute, it cleanses without stripping the skin's natural oils.

Who should take care?

Always read the instructions before use. Paraffin-based emollients can soak into clothing, bedding and dressings and make them catch fire more easily, so keep away from naked flames and cigarettes and wash fabrics regularly at a high temperature. Stop and speak to our pharmacist if the cream causes redness, stinging or irritation. It can make the bath or shower slippery when used as a soap substitute. Keep out of the eyes. If the skin is weeping, crusted, infected or not improving, speak to our pharmacist about whether a different emollient or a check is needed.
