What is Cocois Ointment 100g?

Cocois is a thick, coconut-oil-based ointment for the scalp. It combines coal tar, sulphur and salicylic acid, three long-established ingredients used to loosen and lift the scale that builds up in scalp psoriasis, eczema, seborrhoeic dermatitis and severe dandruff.

How does it help?

Salicylic acid softens and loosens thick scale so it can be washed away, sulphur helps lift dead skin and has a mild antiseptic action, and coal tar slows the over-production of skin cells and calms itching. You part the hair, rub the ointment into the scalp, leave it for about an hour (or overnight for stubborn scale), then shampoo it out. Use once a week for mild dandruff, or daily for three to seven days for a flare-up.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Do not use on inflamed or broken skin, if the scalp is infected, in acute pustular psoriasis, if you are sensitive to sulphur or salicylates, or in the last three months of pregnancy. Keep away from the eyes, mouth and mucous membranes and wash your hands straight after applying. The ointment is flammable: do not smoke or go near naked flames while it is on your hair. It can stain fabric and jewellery. If there is no improvement after four weeks, see a pharmacist or your GP.
